The aim is to assess the proficiency of the participating laboratories.
Proficiency testing covers the overall performance of a laboratory. This includes the entire process:
- receipt and storage of samples,
- experimental work in the laboratory,
- interpretation and transcription of the data and conclusions.
An unsatisfactory B-PTS result may indicate a failure of one or more of the above stages of the process.
